A diagramatic scale to quantify severity of antracnose in Rubus glaucus Benth Ciência Rural
Patiño,Paula Andrea González; Álvarez,Gloria Edith Guerrero; Valencia,Liliana Isaza.
ABSTRACT: Rubus glaucus Benth, commonly referred to as mora de Castilla, is affected by Colletotrichum acutatum, as it induces anthracnose in many of the plant organs. Generally, it affects the fruits during the post-harvest phase and damages them, causing economic losses due to the poor crop quality. At present, no standardized methods are available for this pathosystem that can be used to characterize quantitatively the epidemic and to permit the prediction and comparison of the disease management techniques. In this research, we proposed a logarithmic diagrammatic scale of the severity of anthracnose induced by C. acutatum in the fruits of the thornless variety of R. glaucus Benth. This scale is constructed on the adjustment of the Weber-Fechner law...

Comparison and validation of diagrammatic scales for brown eye spots in coffee tree leaves Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Custódio,Adriano Augusto de Paiva; Pozza,Edson Ampélio; Guimarães,Sarah da Silva Costa; Koshikumo,Érika Sayuri Maneti; Hoyos,Julián Maurício Agredo; Souza,Paulo Estevão de.
A diagrammatic scale with six levels (0.1-3.0; 3.1-6.0; 6.1-12.0; 12.1-18.0;18.1-30.0; 30.1-49.0%) was developed, compared, and evaluated along with two other scales to measure the severity of brown eye spots in coffee trees leaves. The scale was designed based on two others already in use in order to increase the efficiency of evaluation and for estimation values to approach as close as possible to their actual values. Two evaluations were performed using each of the three diagrammatic scales and one was performed without a diagrammatic scale, in seven day intervals. Using the proposed scale, the evaluators demonstrated better precision levels, accuracy, reproducibility, and repeatability in the estimations, when compared to the evaluators who did not use...

DiseasePlan - a spreadsheet application for training people to assess disease severity and to assist with standard area diagram development Ciência Rural
Sachet,Marcos Robson; Citadin,Idemir; Danner,Moeses Andrigo; Guerrezi,Marieli Teresinha; Pertille,Rafael Henrique.
ABSTRACT: Several computer applications have been proposed for the visual assessment of plant disease severity; however, they have some restrictions such as not permitting the user to make modifications. Therefore, the VBA-Excel application was developed as a means to train people to estimate disease severity and to validate standard area diagrams through images and disease severity values (percentage, rating or score) inserted into a database. The main performance statistics are screen displayed and spreadsheet recorded. Finally, the authors hope to receive evaluations and feedback regarding this application.

Elaboration and validation of a diagrammatic scale to assess downy mildew severity in grapevine Ciência Rural
Buffara,Cláudia Regina Scapin; Angelotti,Francislene; Vieira,Rafael Augusto; Bogo,Amauri; Tessmann,Dauri José; Bem,Betina Perreira de.
The downy mildew, caused by Plasmopora viticola, is one of the most important grapevine (Vitis vinifera) diseases in Southern Brazil, causing defoliation and economic losses. The evaluation of disease severity is an important decision for adoption of strategies and tactics for disease control. Therefore, the objective of this work was to elaborate and to validate a diagrammatic scale to assess downy mildew severity in grapevine, respecting the limitations of visual acuity. The diagrammatic scale with seven levels of disease severity of 1, 3, 6, 12, 25, 50 and 75% was developed in two versions of black-and-white and color scale. The scales were tested and validated by eight raters with and without previous experience with grapevine downy mildew. The raters...
